Wine Fact for Today

Posted on Updated on

I thought it would be fun to post a wine fact a few times a week — so you can learn a little as well as have fun on my blog. Today’s fact — the 5 red grapes of the Bordeaux region of France are 1) Cabernet Sauvignon, 2) Merlot, 3) Cabernet Franc, 4) Malbec, and 5) Petit Verdot. These are the only 5 grape varietals allowed in a red wine from this region. Cabernet Sauvignon (for Left Bank wines) and Merlot (for Right Bank wines) are the main grapes in the Bordeaux wines, while Cab Franc, Malbec, and Petit Verdot are typically used in smaller percentages primarily for blending.

That’s very interesting. I love all wines, but Merlots are my favorite. I plan to learn a lot from your post.
